LCD TV Repair made easy # 6

tvrepairinfo.com Now that we see a great many surface mounted components being used in modern day TVs many repairmen are so intimidated they may forget there are still a great many serviceable components and circuits, Especially the switch mode power supply. Here are a few ebooks I thought were very helpful.Troubleshooting & Repairing LCD TVs by John Preher at http For someone new to electronics the first few pages of this book may be a bit challenging but the majority of this book is easy reading with lots of pictures, diagrams, and useful troubleshooting techniques. Johns book has helpful info about servicing LCD TVs. The most helpful points I learned in this book are the main test points and their approximate voltages. ======================================== How to troubleshoot and repair Switch Mode Power supplies by Jestine Yong at davestv.jestinemichellepow.click2sell.eu This was an expensive ebook but the best I have ever read on switching power supplies.Jestine is good at getting right to the main points you need to understand about troubleshooting this kind of power supply and their associated feedback circuits. Since a majority of the problems I have seen on LCD TVs are related to bad power supplies this is one book I'm glad to have in my collection. Most of the book was easy reading with plenty of pictures and diagrams. ======================================== Testing electronic components and finding unknown resistor values by Jestine Yong. http I have not ...

  14. I just stuck a tool in the VCR port cause it would turn on, make an eject VCR sound, then shut off! So yeah, I stuck something in the VCR port and shook it around a lot and it actually works perfectly fine now xD

I don't know. I have never heard of a five point.

  17. I recall my neighbor in the 70s/80s teaching me about electronics including vacuum tubes. Now he is dead and thank you Lee for teaching me before you died.

  18. Thank you. I found that the five point is burnt on the bottom of the board. Is that repairable?

I can't guess but I would start by figuring out which circuit board is buzzing and then do all the tests I show in my videos.

  23. I really love your explanations. They are so clear, simple, and very practical. Keep up the great work! I'm learning a lot by watching your videos. The tip you give about the hot and cold grounds is something I haven't seen covered anywhere else, and it's obviously critically important.

Thanks for replying so quickly, I think I'll try replacing that, anyway it seems to be the last piece of hardware to change, Thanks once again... I'll try to film the problem to show you over youtube, curiously, the tv has been on for over 2 hours, and no sign of the problem, maybe it's feeling it'l be filmed ;-).

I never like to guess at what's wrong with a TV I have never seen or done any tests on, but based on what your saying perhaps the main board is the problem?

Hi, I've been watching your videos for the last few weeks, and it's very nice of you of doing them. We all appreciate.
Now, I've got the above tv set, and now, it's been doing some funny noise, and going black. I have managed to get working PSU, Inverter, and Tcon, and I've changed them all, but the problem remains, would you suggest anything else, there's not much else to be the source of the problem, but Main AV board. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

I mostly use my knowledge and understanding of electronic servicing. Schematics are harder to come by these days, and not as easy to follow as they use to be.

  34. That inverter board you showed at 4:00 looks like the one out of my Syntex LCD TV.
The pic would not come on.
I found a solution that only cost 2 dollars and was amazed that it worked, not knowing at all how to work on circuits.

The small transformer chip thing labeled OZ960 at the center of the board must have had a problem.
solution was to connect pins 10 and 16 together with a 2V LED light. I just printed the PDF of the thing to make sure i got the pins and polarity right.
    It worked.

  37. This guy is the real deal! I have been in the tv repair business for over 25 years, and everything he talks about is proven. With more people fixing their own sets, through the help of Youtube, Ebay, Google, etc. there is still no substitute for experience. Keep up the good work, Grants Pass.
